Chain Tensioners
Hi - Hope someone can advise. I pulled the chain covers of my 1969 2.0t to take a look at the chain tensions thinking i would see the standard old ones fitted as the engine does not have the newer oil feed style ones fitted. What i found is shown in the photos.
Not been able to find any more information regarding them. Adjustment is quite simple but not sure what the gap should be. Any help would he happily received. Best regards ![]() ![]() |

Looks like solid mount tensioners and usually not recommended for street use.

Thanks, They look like they have been in a while. What do you think is down side to running them?

They look like a variation on the old solid mechanical adjusted tensioners. To me tis would be a great opportunity to throw in some rebuilt hydraulic ones if you can. Not necesarily the oil fed ones , jus hydraulic ones wit safety collars.

The best way to set the tension is to do it when the engine is hot and thermally expanded. Setting it cold is a guess.

I think the downside to them would be constant adjustments. I could be wrong though.

The down side is adjustment is only correct once through the heat cycle of the motor running.

Thanks for all the comments. Any guess as to what the setting should be?
I imagine it's just an "x" gap inbetween the pulley and the top of the adjuster. i'm sure someone out there has seen a pair before they can't be the only ones! |
