Alternator wiring...quick question.
Okay. I've read all the alternator posts here, and have yet to find one that exactly looks like or describes mine. I have a white (cream) wire, a blue wire, and of course, the big red positive. Oh, and the ground strap. On the alternator, there is B+, D+, W, and a few other posts that aren't labled at all. Where do my blue and white wires go? I'm guessing I can put the ground strap on any of the main posts that don't connect to anything else electrical. Here's a pic of what mine looks like:

KC-
The large red goes on the B+ post. The blue on the D+ post. And the white? (which I will assume should be the brown) goes on the D- post. But you've got a W post? Perhaps someone has done some re-wiring in the past? Also sounds like this alternator has a built-in voltage regulator as there should be another possibly black wire heading from a DF post toward a voltage regulator that sits on the electic consol to the left side of the engine. If you have the built-in variety, the extra wire gets ditched; it might still be danging in there some where. The ground strap connects to any of the 6 perimeter studs (usually one of lower ones) that holds the air diverter contraction (all very techical, eh?). Anyway, this is what my 73 & 75 911 schematics show. Good luck. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Bentley manual for SC's shows on page 970-10 for the generator with internal voltage regulator RED on B+, BLUE on D+/61, BRN on D- and another BRN for ground. There is no WHITE wire shown, it's a mistery. Jump in, anybody.

Red for output back to battery?
Brown for ground? One for the voltage regulator for sensing battery voltage? and one for the dash warning light? Is that an aftermarket? Mabye you can hit up the local dealership parts guy (on a slow day) for some info, if no other source is available. Not something to make a guess on. Boy, I can remember what 'fun' it was to hook up those wires and keep track of all the washers, etc. while re-attaching the air-diverter! About as much fun as a tooth extraction...without gas!

"Assembly is the reverse of disassembly" (Bentley)
But it always pays to make a diagram before you take something like that apart.
