Hi,
Where can I go on the Web to look up information on a car by VIN #? VIN #09111113160 . Will it tell me if the car (a 71 911 Targa) is a T, E, or S?

Also, Wht are your thoughts on this car? I believe it would be the 2.7 engine? http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/6/7/1418867.htm.
Anyone care to comment on how the mid year cars differ from the early years? Please no disparaging remarks http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif

That VIN would indicate a 71 911 T targa, #3160. This means the car in the ad is not a 74. It is an early car with a body update.

The engine should be a 2.2L if its still original. I would look closely at the car and have a PPI to make sure that there is nothing fishy happening.

It's a 71 T.

The 74-77 cars are underappreciated, probably. They were the first to sport the new accordian impact bumpers, and the polution-control equipment (especially the thermal reactors, from 1975 on) caused overheating problems on the already-problematic magnesium case engines. The 911/92 engine in that car puts out 150 hp, with CIS, relatively mild cam timing, and cast (not forged) pistons.

I am actually looking at two different cars. The 71 911 T (thanks) and the '74. They want $20k for the 71, which seems steep but it's really nice. The '74 in the ad does seem like a low price for the car.

Thanks Jack. If I can get over the accordian bumpers (I like the early cars best) it seems like a low price for a really nice car - at least at a glance.
