What were you doing when this occured? Accelerating? Decelerating? Any other accompanying symptoms or sounds? Is it doing this all the time now? Have you been able to replicate it? How many miles on the engine?

My guess is you got some things washed onto the HE's that are now burning off. I've never taken my car to a car wash for fear I'd get water in the HE's. What did the smoke smell like? Where was it coming from? A little more info would go a long way here.

Again, did it smell like oil? Did you go through a drive through car wash that sprays the undercarriage? And did you check to make sure you didn't overfill the oil when you added 1.5 quarts. These cars don't like to be overfilled. Where was the oil on the dipstick with the engine running? I and many others from what I've found run these at the half way point. My guess is you got some oil on the Heat exchangers and it was burning off.

Sounds like a classic oil overfill to me. Kev, there are many, many threads about checking the oil level here on PP, but the key is to do it only when the oil is warm and with the engine at a normal idle speed. Many of us have better results keeping the oil level in the lower part of the OK range on the dipstick.

Sounds like you overfilled and sucked it up into the intake. Did you check oil on the dipstick on level ground, engine running and the engine warm, thermostat fully open?

Oil should be at just below the halfway mark on the stick.

very easy to overfill. keep mine at 1/4. plenty of oil. and heard that the difference between min and max is a quart or maybe even a bit less.

180 degrees moves the oil from the bottom mark to the top mark, just like adding 2. Quarts of oil. That's why spec on the dipstick is warm, level and idle.

I only add oil 1/2 quart of oil at a time. The hotter the motor is, the higher the oil level is. I try to keep my oil level at 1/2 level which when the gauge stops bouncing at traffic lights. Usally only needs 1/2 quart of oil to get the needle back to bouncing. Any higher oil levels seems to just burn off faster to get back to 1/2 level !!

Adding oil is easy. Draining 'some' is a challenge.
Good for you.
