Question Help with Putting SC Flares on my 75 911S Targa

If I purchase some 911SC Flares for the rear fenders of my car... does the body shop have to cut into my old fender to mount them or do they mount on without cutting? Also what is the typical cost to put fenders on the rear of a car?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ray, I live in Illinois and have a 911S w/o the flares. I would like to one day do this to my car. Is the shop you used local? I'm in The Naperville area also.

Souk,

I used the same shop that Jack O. used for Black Beauty. You can contact Mark Carr at www.carrmotorcoach.com, (217) 826-6426. He is located in Marshall, IL. I called him after seeing that Jack bought his car from Mark and had him do the flares and paint. Photos of Mark's work-in-progress on Black Beauty are on Jack's Rennlist web page, and mine are in the link in the above post.

It takes a lot of work/time. you grind until you get shiny metal, particularly on the car's existing body (don't watch). You attach the new flares with huge vise grips. tak weld. adjust if necessary. REweld. grind. Weld. grind. weld. cut off the old flares. grind. sand. mud. sand. mud. sand. sand. sand. paint. sand. paint. sand. paint....

Had mine done by a vintage restorer. Used some type of melted metal to fill in rather than bondo or fiberglass after welding on the extensions. Even did under the fender so you cannot even tell that they were added on. Nice nice job.

I just had this done to mine at a local Body shop. Your wheel opening will have to be cut back from the lip about 5", this will be dertermined by the fit of the new flair to the existing panel. I purchased new factory parts for this update and the cost of the parts were almost as much as the labour to install. If I were to do it again I would look for some clean rust free parts from the southern states, this will save you quite a bit of money. Check with others on this board and someone should be able to direct you to someone who has these parts. Used SC flares cut back about 9-12" from the wheel opening at the top and 7-9" near the bottom will leave plenty of metal to work with for re-installation on your car. You will also need the SC metal bolt on rocker panel (your rubber insert will fit if the part does not come with it) and the SC metal bumper extentions. You could probably find a good body shop in Ontario to do the installation for under $1000cdn plus painting.
