Big Bear Run II Pics!
What a great day! We had 19 911s show up & about 26 participants including wives, kids and friends. Everyone made it up the mountain for a group shot by the lake and breakfast. After breakfast a few left for home, some went back down the 330 and the rest of us went down the 38. About 12 cars met back in Redlands and five us made it over to the Falconer for after run refreshments. Thanks to everyone who attended, it was a great run and I really enjoyed meeting all of you. I will post a video later this week. In the mean time, please post pics for everyone to see and for me to use in the video. Thanks Guys!

It was a blast. I had to turn back home once we left brunch but am happy to hear everyone made it back in one piece. The weather was perfect (70's down below and 50's at the lake).
P.S. - I love how well my car runs after a 300+ mile highway trip - purrs like a kitten! Here's a nice butt shot...

A few highlights for me: Mikez's sick-fast 3.6 transplant, the sight of 19 cars snaking up the road, no breakdowns (my hunting idle at altitude aside), and best of all...once the damn minivan got out of our way, a very fast, fun twisty run into Fawnskin. I got a big grin every time I saw a "25mph curve" warning sign. We took it slow on the way back ("dad, I feel sick"),and wore shorts and shortsleeve shirt the entire time (sorry rest of the country dwellers.
I've got a few I'll get up on the server...but for now here's a fore and aft shot out the sunroof (look ma, no look!), and a butt shot:

What's that blue stuff above the trees? Here's it's medium to dark grey with water falling from it. It's been doing that for so long, it's all I can remember.
Looks like y'all had a great time!

Yup, great day, great people.
I had to make the run up the hill solo due to my being in the middle of a pass when the offramp came up :-0 Good thing was I had clear road about 75% of the way up. Most of the time I just behaved and enjoyed doing what the car was made for but I had a few "twitches" when I had to squeaze the wheel a little tighter than normal. The drive back down the hill was a little more clustered up by grandparents and soccer moms but we still had a few spirited stretches. Oh, and a local police type officer trailed us for about 5 miles along the north rim of the lake, sure is boring driving 39 in a 40 mph zone. Thanks for setting this up, had a blast. Looking forward to the next one, but next time remind me to either keep the sunroof closed or put on sun screen :-) |

Big Run II
What a day! Left Vegas at 0415, arrived Redlands 0730 (314 miles). Average speed was down from normal. It is Comdex this week, all the Vegas residents that can are leaving town, some were getting an early start. Was soooo great to put faces and cars to the screenames. My highlights; ---Mikez' 3.6 and his unique style of letting slower cars know he wants to pass, and him changing into 'driving clothes' once it warmed up. ---Dr. Ryan leading the charge up the hill with Jeff, the right-seater trying not to lose the video camera held above the Targa bar on the twisties at speed. Was funny watching (from 50 feet back) the alternating holding on and filming. ---Power-sliding a turn exit (realizing I might be scaring the guy behind me) and then noticing he was hanging it out as far as I was, and was smiling as broadly as I was. ---The fast downhill run in the front four, all different car colors, different exhaust systems (all pretty to listen to), four p-cars at speed, sweeping in unison thru the forest. Count me in for the next one! Michael Krebs '80 911SC WDP '83 944 Last edited by singpilot; 11-17-2002 at 04:00 PM.. |

Man, I wish my 2 year old (Cameron) could have told me BEFORE he puked all over the place.......5 times! He started about 1/2 way down the hill and stopped in Claremont. It was a long, stinky ride home, but we had a great time. Hope I get that nice leather smell back ![]() Nice to meet everyone and put names to faces. Ryan, killer job setting this up. Next time I'm solo, tho!

Oh, Maam, just one of those 3 pancakes is enough, please.
Brad;
Aren't you glad you only let him have one of those? Michael Krebs '80 911SC '83 944 Last edited by singpilot; 11-17-2002 at 03:58 PM.. |

Congrats on a great run! The scenery and cars look fantastic.
Hopefully this gets all of us NoVa Pelicanheads juiced up for next Sunday's run.

LOL, I didn't know about the hurling, hope he's feeling better now. Those constant switchbacks can really mess with a person. I caught myself being almost hypnotized at one point at about 60 mph in a corner! Just looking off in a daze.
The SC ran perfectly all day, around 200 miles total, and I love the new Yoko AVS tires. I still haven't got them to squeal yet. Slide yes, squeal no. The car was noticeably down on power at 7000 feet elevation but it never complained a bit. We did have a very slight bumper tap but after close inspection there's not even a sctratch. Who says those big ugly bumpers and rubber tits are all bad? Oh, Mikey and I taught sign language to a dingy lady on the way home, seems she thought it was perfectly fine to change lanes when there's a car already occupying the spot she wants. I'm pretty sure she knows better now :-) |

I was amazed at how ineffective the thin air at altitude (7000 ft) was at cooling down my car. Near the top, I was creeping near 250 F. (dreaded) and nothing would bring her back to normal temps. Thankfully, my turbo kept power levels the same. My GPS recorded 10,237 feet of vertical climbing during the trip!
The food was great. Too bad Brad had to see it twice (cute kid, BTW). - Mike

Squeal? I sure got my Yoko AVS’ to squeal on the way back down as tried to do my RUF Yellow Bird impression. We got video footage of that one.
Sorry to hear about the puke session on the way back Brad. I hear they sell “new car smell’ air freshener. They might even have a “good old leather smell” also. You guys are great. I even have my friend, Jeff’s, wife convinced he needs a Porsche now!

What a great day! Gorgeous cars, great scenery, and made-to-order weather. Ryan...we owe ya one pal. Thanks for planning the event, and for your organization and thoroughness.
We had a great time, and it was good to put faces with names. So, let's start planning the next one! Cheers! Scott ps: Brad: So sorry to hear about the, uh, return of breakfast. Cameron's a cute kid, though. pps: Nostatic: I had the same idle hunting.

It was a fun day. My pictures are the old fashioned ones so it will take some time before I can post them. Brad, sorry to hear about Cameron. That must have been an ugly ride back. Thanks for the great organization and perfect weather, Dr Ryan! Ver nice drive with lots of curves.

It was great to put some more faces together with the names and see a collection of some really nice p-cars. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. The roads were a little clearer this time around to, either that or a string of 19 911's in a the rear view window really makes them move over.
My wife was even more forgiving with the spirited driving. She now realizes that it is not just me who drives like that! Thanks again for organizing the event Ryan. I wouldn't doubt it if next time there were 30+ p-cars! I forget everyone I spoke with about the December 12th DE event at Willow Springs. If you are interested let me know and I'll send you the info.

I also had a great time. It was my first run with a bunch of guys that love porsches as much as I do. Maybe I should have brought the wife along so she could see that I am not the only one that drives like we do. Sorry to hear about the boy getting sick I guess pancakes and porsches dont go together.

It was nice to finally put some faces with the names on this BBS. The trip was fantastic. The weather was gorgeous. And the roads were awesome. I had a blast. Many thanks for putting it all together Ryan.

OK.....first off, it was helacious fun.
We had Festus, the local drunk help serve drinks at breakfast....he had the limp, the greasy hair and everything.... I would like to thank EVERYONE that contributed to the breakfast fund.....I made the mistake of ordering a "special" and the "dentally challenged" order person figured she could exact her revenge by giving ME the bill....... Whilst I collected monies and everyone was running to the door I suddenly realized that old gap tooth was gonna get a hell of a tip.... I highly appreciate it....I once got stuck on a bill in similar circumstances ..... it was not fun....you guys are a class act thanks..... NOW, to esplain some stuff........ My driving attire.....ahem, went from ugly race oriented hawaiin shirt, flip flops and jeans to the same shirt, flips and shorts......no biggie......of course every gal there wanted me.....NOT.... My way of getting people to move over.....simple, high beams and "S" manuvers, like the racers do to warm up the tires....simple effective and not too illegal..... Cameron was fine after I played "airplane" with him and fed him three chocolate bars and a "Yoo Hoo".....it MUST have been Dad's erratic driving...... The soccer mom twit that Sammy and I taught sign to, was cutting in and out of traffic and cussing at her cell phone....I doubt she saw us...... NOW FOR "MY" HIGHLIGHTS....... 130 mph reported by a certain turbo pilot....... CHP radiating radar and following us for 20 minutes....we had detectors and radios.... Catching cops hiding in the weeds...... Watching Dr. Ryan getting a little "too" frisky going down hill.... Watching his co-pilot trying to hold onto his expensive digital video cam at the same time..... Playing bumper tag with Doc Ryan..... Scaring the heck out of a 12 year old blonde hottie that looked 22 from the rear....ya had to be there..... Doing double lane changes and ignoring the 25mph signs..... More to come as I wind down from the 6 hour plus drive home with all the traffic..... Oh yeah, we thought about the poor P-Heads back east that got rained out....sorry dudes.... Brad, Cameron should have stuck with french fries and 7-up for breakfast like Calvin and Zachary (unless Zachary puked on the way home...). It's funny because on the way up I got a few complaints, but once we got past the minivan Calvin was laughing his head off while holding onto the door handle for dear life. But only so many twisties before the inner ear says enough I guess. Takes after dad on that one. Even driving I had a few moments. Luckily some Sapporo and sake at dinner seems to have soothed things (for me, not Calvin).
I'm with you on the "going solo" next time though Brad. I think some canyon carving either off PCH or maybe up towards Piru. btw, who was our Canadian participant? Now *that* was a long drive. I got to Starbucks too late and missed most of the intros...btw, someone should annotate Sam's group photo so we can have a good names/faces log. |

Wow, look at all those cars! Sounds like the drive was a lot of fun.
I'm really kicking myself for missing this event, but heater core replacement on my daily driver (damn water cooled cars!) took priority. Next time!
