Speed sensor and reverse light switch
So this past weekend I got some work done on my 78/81 FrankenPorsche... unfortunately it was all steps in the wrong direction (got everything put together and found a gas leak) so took the engine out and pulled the fuel lines. In the process I found that the speed sensor cable had been pinched, and one of the wires was damaged. is that something I can cut and then splice back together? would that damage the integrity? normally I'd just cut my losses and replace it, but my budget went out the window...
Also I had damaged the reverse switch's cable the last time I took it all apart, took probably two inches off of it when I spliced it back together (someone had fun with the tolerances at the factory) Before I rip that cable apart, is there any way to get a new one? does it come out of the wiring harness relatively easy? Hopefully you all had a slightly more productive weekend than I. George |
Contact Dennis (timmy2). He made me a new engine and CIS harness. My reverse light switch connector was in bad shape. He has a source for the terminals so surely he could make you up a little extension for that.
Not sure about the speedo sensor but he can probably help with that too. |
awesome! :) thank you, also nice picture ;)

also, how do I find timmy2?

sorry, found him :)

I believe the speed sensor just delivers an electric pulse that needs a good path. Are either of the wires shielded with a mesh type wrap? |
Bob, I'm not entirely sure, I know that the Brown (I think) wire got cut, but it looked like there were two other wires in there as well (both white, could have been a nylon support cord). worst case scenario is I just snip the thing in half and find out that there is shielding. I wouldn't be out anything as the one is already cut.

If during the repair the wires are soldered and shrink tubing is used I see no reason why they can't be repaired. If exposed to water I also like to put RTV clear silicone inide the shrink tubing prior to shrinking it, then cleanup the excess RTV and you have a water tight wire repair.

Draco: that sounds amazing! |

Isn't this just a simple low voltage on off switch ? What is the deal with the flimsy connectors and the "kilovolt" hard but brittle bakelite material for the plug ? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1461380737.jpg |
