The brown pad is a 4mm piece of saddle leather which Greg will sew into the carpets as the heel plates. It looks black in the photo but itís actually chocolate brown.

So, what with getting married, being invalided out of the British Army, Mrs Wrench being up the duff, Honeymoon in the US and 16th year into a war crimes allegation, things on the car have been a bit slow...

But then I got invited to Luftgekuhlt UK in a couple of weeks, so now itís a race against time to get the car back together. Luckily Alan Stokes kind rearranged his schedule to help rebuild my engine, and Greg and Glenn at Awesome had an intern in, so he helped with the new soundproofing.

Rocket, your first sentence in this update would make a worthy opening to a movie or novel. A lot going on in those few words.
Congratulations on your marriage to a very beautiful lady.
Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy and arrival of a little 'un.
In regards to the Royal Army and the matter you reference, it sounds serious and must be a tremendously heavy burden to bear. I hope you are being treated fairly and honorably.
Kind wishes, John (ex-pat) in Connecticut

Sadly neither fairly, nor honourably: Army Major facing new probe of Iraqi death hands in medals

But one has to focus on the good things in life...

I thought about a new engine heat pad, and nearly went with a Singer style leather pad, but fretted what might happen to it after a few years of hot exhaust gassed on it. Instead I went for a McLaren F1 style gold engine bay lining. I made a couple of bars to hold them in as the glue will eventually fail.

There was the inevitable swearing and I had to climb inside the engine bay to drill and tap some of the holes. Greg was on top of the world as heís about to go on vacation...

I realise it looks a bit blingtastic and Trumpesque right now, but once the shiny rebuilt engine has been returned it hopefully look less like Liberaceís sofa...

Rocket, I was blissfully ignorant of your situation and am ashamed that the very institutions that sent you, on our behalf, into the breech are now sacrificing you to someone elseís ridiculous and tainted agenda. Thank you for volunteering to put yourself in harmís way and enduring conditions the rest of us cannot imagine.

The gold engine sound pad is the dogís gonads. John

Painted the seat rails and wiper arms black, the top of the starter motor red for no discernible reason.

Then went to where the engine is to take stock of absolutely everything before the reassembly next week. Found a couple of cracked pipes so ordered replacements.
