seat recommendations

Hey all,
I'm thinking of changing out the seats in my SC and putting in some type of racing seats. I don't want to break the bank on this one, but does anyone have any experience with this? recommendations?

thanks
Kyle.

I am having Sparco "Torino" seats put in my ride as I write this.

But as far as your situation you have some homework to do with regards to which mfg's seats are for you. Just be sure to not go cheap, you will regret it. With seats you truely get what you pay for. This is an obvious one, I know, but be sure to sit in the seats before buying.

Check out:

Sparco USA
Recaro
Cobra
Cerullo

Gooduck and have fun.

Have Leland make you a carbon fiber seat shell. Then get it upholstered.

to keep the $'s to a minimum, get a non-reclining bucket that you can swap in for DE's etc.

From what I've seen, cheap reclining types flex too much. What's the purpose of side bolsters that are held on with duct-tape and zip-ties? (okay, they're not quite that bad)

Sparco Torino(s) in Black- They don't look too out - of - place with the rest of the car.

I'm pictured here one -legged, The other one will be in before the week's up. (they ran out of stock) They fit pretty well (I'm 5'10" @200) seem solid and well built and should last. Seem to sit a tad higher though. Comfy on long drives.

I like my Corbeau seats a lot. They hold you in nicely but they're still comfortable and affordable.

Cheers!

Kyle,
I like the hard shell race seats. I have one Recaro Pole position and one Recaro SPG.
I really like the pole position. It is very comfortable for daily driving. I recently purchased the SPG (used on ebay).
I tried putting in the SPG last night and my fat a@@/body does not fit very well. I may be selling the SPG soon if you're interested. Also, you're welcome to stop by and try the seats out to see if you want a hard shell.

I recently purchased a pair of Corbeau Forza 2 seats and I'm very unhappy with how much they raised my seat height. I'm still in the process of trying to fabricate something to lower them.

If I were to do it over, I would purchase Recaro SRD seats. They still recline, and have the holes for comp belts. I recently sat in Thom's (widebody911)& liked them alot.

Sparco evo's. Fixed seat. You can get them in normal or wide. They are a great seat!!!! Not to deep of a pocket so you dont feel as if you need to grab on to anything to pull yourself out. Perfect angle. Forza's suck! I'm 6-3 and have sat in about 15 different seats at tracks. For me, sparco evo is the best all around seat for the price. Yes there are better. Install 2 putting the wider seat as a passenger. Never know who will sit over there.

Recaro SRDs are great! I researched this topic pretty thoroughly a few months back and decided on the SRDs. They swap-out directly with factory seats, no additional rails req'd. Cost is about $599 ea. Very popular at DE events as well.

Of course, it's always a good idea to sit a few different seats and see which feels the best for you.

Good luck!

I had a bracket custom made out of two pieces of angle iron and some flat bar stock for the crossmembers and mounted my Corbeau Forza lower by 1-1/2" and back 2-1/2" from stock. It cost me $60 at a local welding shop and bolts to the stock seat rail positions. Considering the Corbeau brackets are $45/ea., I figure this mod cost me $15 to get an excellent driving position for my 6'3" frame. Any seat I would have bought would have needed to have custom mounts for me in my sunroof coupe with a helmet on.

For $200, you can buy 3 Forzas for the cost of one Recaro or Sparco, so I wouldn't put them out of consideration so quickly.

Really like the fit of my Recaro Sports - use Recaro sliders for best fit and you'll sit about 2 inches lower than stock. Plus the pull-out knee support allows for 2-point sub-strap harness.

Cool

it seems like everyone is foot taller than i am on this board!
I'm only about 5 foot 6, so adding a little seat height doesn't bug me a bit !!!!!!

If you're ever in Redmond, drop by Speedware. All the seats in their waiting room are different fixed-back racing buckets. You can sit in each one, and see which one feels the best. Personally, I prefer the Sparco "EVO" and "REV", and the Recaro "Pole position".

Matt-Those Corbeau brackets are terrible! I had my Forza II's mounted directly to the floor. I cut up and used the brackets as reinforcement on the bottom of the floor plan.

The Forza II's are cheap to buy and show it. I figure I'll get at least a few years of use though.

One thing to consider-Fixed seats make it difficult to get stuff in the back of the car. I have a welded in cup car style cage, so packing for DE's is a challenge when you only have the trunk.

I agree the Sparco's are the way to go...if your backside looks more like a 930 than a 912 go w/ the evo 2's. I went w/ Primm motorsports (I think Dante calls it Sparcoforless.com now). Tell him you want the Ben's rally page special. Evo 2's w/ brackets for $400.00 a piece, plus some kind of import tax +- 20.00. They're snug and really hold you in. I had mine mounted as low as possible on sliders, but my helmet still touched the headliner (very annoying). To alleviate the problem I ran w/o the seat pad. No problem and still real comfortable. Last weekend I yanked them from my 993 and bolted them into my new track car. I canned the sliders and now have plenty of headroom evcen w/ the seatpad in. Good Luck BTW, you can get colored inserts for the seats too!

i have a cobra suzuka. it is my "daily driver" seat now and i'm very happy with the comfort and fit. the only complaint i have is that shortly after i installed it, i made a very small tear in one of the seams. it hasn't grown any bigger with 8 months of use, but i didn't like the fact that it tore. it is a small complaint compared to the comfort of the seat.
