Post oil cooler question

Finaly I begun the dissasemble of my 69 S. In fact it is full disassembled and sand blasted. No oil leaks on the engine, no particular damage from rust, with an exception on the floor; it has been practically destroyed by the rust. The whole structure very well and with almost no rust on it. Down the right fender I discovered a return of the oil line without a cooler on it, just an "U" of rubber material. Is this normal or should I atache a cooler ?
Thanks
Ed

I believe there used to be a cooler there. The PO probably took it out for whatever reason. But there was a cooler on the early S cars.
