Painting DISASTER!! (Almost)
Got the TRE bumpers on and the bodywork was looking good, (and yes I am keeping the Targa bar black
)The painter was done with the base coats and started spraying clear, and then WATER in THE AIR LINE!! Not a lot but it doesn't take much. He immediatly stopped. This guy has one of the best booth set ups I have ever seen. Ultra clean air system, stainless lines, two different driers/dryers. He was stumped. He thinks that one of his driers bypassed or something cracked and drew in moist ambient air. He has painted many cars and trucks for me over the years. (We have known each other since we were four!) He was sick, and so was I. Luckily he had only just started and just part of the front driver side fender was affected. Now we wait a few days, sand like hell, clean, evacuate and start all over. |

Man oh man, that's NOTHING. He'll sand off and respray. He will have no problems getting that perfect for you.

I shot my pickup a few years back in that cool mid 90s Porsche "Iris Blue Metallic". It seems that I didnt have enough light in my little booth and didnt quite get enough coverage on my base coat. Unfortunatly the sun didnt come out until I had cleared it and totally re-assembled the truck DOH!!!
You could park the truck in the sunlight and see little light patches all the way down the left side. Had to tear it down, sand it and re-spray again the next week. Cost me about $400 in material and a lot of time. Now, thats a paint disaster I ran into the moisture prob one time too.....shot my VW a few years back and it seems that my filter wasnt working either. The bad side was the little water spots didnt show up until the paint was wet-sanded and buffed. As soon as you ran across the surface with the buffer....WHAMMO! (Now that I think about it I do almost all of my paintjobs twice) Oh well, live and learn and they eventually turn out great. Paint and body is a fickle job.

I think mine was unique!
Started painting the car with PPG paint, then guess what....? I live in So. Cal. 20-30 minutes away from the beach. It started to hail. Now, what are the odds of getting hail in So. Cal. I had to sand and respray!!!!! |

I had a similar thing with an old Ford pick-up, but with a truck who's name is "Mr. Slime", you don't care much. Looked great from ten feet away.
