Fuel tank recommendations? Sea, Wa
So I bought a 1979 sc that has been parked for 8 years. Here is a pic of the fuel tank internally. Recommendations for a place that can clean or should I buy a new one? New ones do not seem to have the swirl pot? And from reading it seems with swirl pot can't be refurbished? any advice and specifically seattle wa related vendor for refurbish/ clean would be appreciated.

I'd find another one.

New ones are $375 here. Radiator shop "fix" will likely ruin the swirl pot.

People here on the forum have restored worse tanks but after recently going through this I was unable to find any long term reports on how the repairs held up or the return of any rust. So, I opted for one of the new replacements from our host for about $350, however, they do not have the swirl pot OR the in-tank filter/screen that goes inside the pot.
Considering how sensitive fuel systems and especially CIS is to dirt, its not worth the risk to repair old rusty tanks. Tank liners are out of the question too as they eventually peel. I have revived over 20 old cars some of which had dirty or rusty fuel tanks. Its easy to be optimistic about saving a tank, however, one time chasing a driveability problem due to dirt in the fuel system will convince you having an excellent fuel tank is the only way to go. |

Call Chris' German and ask for Kelly. He may have one.

None of the replacement tanks come with the swirl pot and baffles so can they still be installed in the earlier CIS 911's? Thanks, Steve

I thought when I looked into my replacement tank there was a metal swirl pot in there. It definitely has the little screen that screws into the bottom. I purchased it here on Pelican for $400 something.

Interesting to hear since the Dansk replacement tank PP sells here states that it does not use an internal fuel strainer, which I concluded must not have a swirl pot since the strainer sits inside the swirl pot.
Did you buy the Dansk unit or the other one PP sells from Trask? I am waiting to hear back from Wayne since he should be able to provide a definitive answer. (Another sales rep did not know). Thanks,

I did not buy the Dansk unit. I bought the galvanized steel one below the dansk.
