Question Factory spare tire air pump

How does the factory spare tire pump looks like? I was trying to get familiar with the collapsible spare tire in my 911 recently, and to test it, of course no pump. The factory book dos not have a picture of the DC spare tire pump. I know any aftermarket pump will do, I tried searching the host catalog but nothing came up.
Thanks!

I can't tell you how many soccer balls and bicycle tires I've pumped up with those compressors over the course of my life. They're so damned helpful it should be a crime.

Thanks for the photo. Where does this thing go in the trunk? With the little space available looks big.

I keep them in my basement and don't carry one in the car. That's why it still looks pristine and immaculate after all these years. Just carry a cell phone and AAA card.

Seriously, again, where the he11 do you put them?

Just let them slide around in the trunk? Mine's aftermarket and I try to wedge it next to the tire, but it still moves around.

It is wedged under the lip of the front trunk.

Before the official Porsche pump came out, 911s came with el cheapo British or American made electric pumps. I have one from my '78 911SC. It's awful.

For day to day emergency use I bought a really nice one at Griot's Garage.

My 86 didn't have one, i looked forever for one, e-bay, etc. Ended up just buying a cheaper Craftsman one. I still keep the Craftsman one in my Tahoe, it gets used all the time.

My 92 came with one. It is nestled in right on top of the spare and fits there perfectly.

Delete the over-weight space saver spare and the pump. Front end is about 60 pounds lighter resulting in more response at the steering wheel. 50 pound battery is next. A/C long gone. Smuggler's box a great place to place factory tools and Fix-o-Flat.

Didn't the SCs come with a different pump, that was standard for VWs too?

I don't know which 1978-1983 VW model you're referring to. I'd be surprised if they came with an electric pump at all. I didn't even know they used space saver tires. I'm trying to remember the manufacturer of the original 911SC pump. I think it ended in "aire". I'll take a look tonight when I get home.

The originals are made by Intercompressor.

I would get the Continental one.

that Conti one looks nice.

I've had many portable pumps in 15 years of owning and driving Porsches all over California. I have to say I've had my rear saved more times than I can remember by having some portable air.

This is the one I have now. I've saved one other motorist with it so far. It comes in it's own fabric zippered case.

I just realized I actually started driving my first Porsche 22 years ago. Dang I'm getting old!

My Craftsman one is a 5 year older model of this one. It works well and was less than $20.00. I have used mine a ton, and so have neighbors.

I put two strips of the hook side of Velcro (6"s each) on the bottom of my Porsche pump case, put it in the trunk, pressed it down into the carpet...it has not moved in a month...no sliding around.
