Cam thrust washer orientation/sprocket parallelism

with all this cam talk...

for the thrust washer and spacers, one side of my thrust washer is beveled and the other is flat...

I installed it so that beveled end in INTO the engine with the spacers on the flat side...its this correct???

also I HATE to be such a numbnuts but I was going to install the new 964 cams without measuring sprocket parallel-ism...

is it a sin? I know super did it without it and used the factory 3R4L spacers...mine came with 4 on each side when I disassembled.

Should I go through the trouble of buying the tool and taking off the engine mount and measuring???

Mike,
You *should* check the parallelism when installing a new cam.
You don't need any special tools, just a good straight-edge (machinists rule) and a vernier caliper. BA's book describes the procedure very well.

you should, but if the engine was just disassembled for the first time, and you made a note of how many shims were on each side, you should be fine reassembling it the same way. the bevel goes toward the cam, shims on the outside.

well this project was supposed to be 2 weeks...with school and go-karting it's become 2 months...ack...I guess I will do the measurements...just to be safe...

thanks...
