Changing out Value Cover Gasket - How to clean internal engine?

I am in the process of replacing my leaking valve cover gaskets with the engine out of the car. I have cleaned both mating surfaces for the valve covers (cam towers and valve covers). Here is my question:

Although I have been diligent to keep debris out of the open engine, I am curious if anyone has a method to clean the exposed internal engine parts. Do you guys spray light weight or a safe internal engine cleaner to flush out any debris that cannot be seen?

Thanks!!

Use a shop vac to get any small bits. Easy and it works
