Wiring Problem HELP

Dear Pelicans...

During a recent G50 shifter rebuild project, I pinched the wire that goes to the little light next to the parking brake that shows the up and down arrows. When I switched on the head light, that wire had a direct short which melted itself and all of the other wires in that small loom... green w/white (the seatbelt warning light) and the blue and blue w/white stripe... which I think is the thermostat blower motor leads... but this wasn't connected to anything.

Anyway, these melted all the way up to the larger loom at which point, the carnage appeared to stop. None of the fuses blew... the main fuse for the tail lights signals appears to have been much too heavy. Anyway, when all of this happened, the turn signals on front and back stopped working.

So... no blown fuses... and no turn signals. Any ideas would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Thanks,
BrianS

Remove the burnt wires and replace them all. Check the turn signal contacts in the switch. The wiring to it from the 6 pin connector as well.
Isolate and check wiring in the area for shorts to ground.
If you need wire, I can likely supply it or tell you where to get it.

Timmy2,

Thanks for the response. Will dig into the turn signal next.

Follow the looms from the turn signals down to the 6 pin plug that goes through the dash as well as the connections to the light switch. May have some damaged wire there under the dash.
If you find damage, Remove steering wheel and driver's seat and knee pad. You'll thank me later! :)

Timmy2,

I will dig in this weekend. I didn't mention this, but the Emergency Flashers also aren't working. Anyway, I will take the steering column apart next and check the turn signal and the light switch.

I think when people suggest putting a fuse in the instrument panel lights, this would also have been fused. Am I right Timmy?
Too late to help here, but perhaps another good reason for adding that fuse!

No, that only protects the instrument light circuit.
When wires get shorted the damage can go all over the place as insulation melts and more wires get involved.

Anyway he can get rid of the "beyotch light".....%^)
