Oil Relief Valves
Anyone of you clever people got a method to undo the old style oil pressure relief valve caps? Is there a special tool to do this, or do I have to resort to vice grips? Thanks

I recently did this with vice grips as well, no problem at all. Came out easy with no damage.

Pressure relief valve plug.......
After you successfully removed the pressure relief plug, I strongly recommend to replace it and install the new version plug with hex cap. Some of these old plugs are very difficult to remove and would take some effort to get them loose. Do not use brute force that could cause permanent damage on your crankcase.

Thanks guys. Vice grips with firm constant pressure worked a treat.

Odd looking section.......
Quote:
Pmarshallsay, What is that odd looking section (wavy area) below the oil pressure plug? Some sort of epoxy weld or repair? Have not seen one like before. Thanks. Tony |

Worth a read: Ultimate Oil Pressure Relief Valve Thread.
You do not specify the model/year. Worth considering new oil pressure spring and if not installed the anti-cavitation "bowler" sump screen in the correct orientation.
