How to get a nice early 911.

So, you just can't wait to join your local R-Gruppe chapter? You gotta have one of these early 911's. They're so fun to drive and along with the sheer pleasure of early 911 motoring you get to be an instant part of the spectacular history of the greatest road-going sportcar ever made. Here are a few tips to finding the right car:

1. They are out there, in droves. You just need to know where to look. So many early 911 owners use them to commute. Hunt them down in parking lots. I find a lot os "S" models at Staples.

2. Have a business card handy to put in the windshield when you see one. Have "I BUY THIS EARLY 911" and your phone number on it. You will get a call. This is an excellent opportunity to lowball the seller.

3. Have a 8"x12" sign in bright day-glo colors with "I BUY YOUR EARLY 911 - CALL ME -YOUR CELLPHONE NUMBER-". When you pass one on the freeway you can flash it and make a deal. This approach really works well if you see one broken down on the side of the road. Drive alongside, flash the sign, and wait for your moment to make a great deal. If you don't get a favorable response, peel off - leaving rubber.

4. Everyone knows the early 911 is a great date car. Hang out at late night movies and when the frisky couple emerges be ready to make your best pitch.

5. Garage sales are a great place to find them. Usually they are buried under the knick-knacks and foo-foo that the seller is purveying. Make a deal for everything, waving your hand over the lot. Then make sure you get the car with it. Argue vehemently that there was no misunderstanding and be ready to cite contract laws in your state regarding "implied sales".

6. POMONO!!! That's right, the number one best spot. Early 911's in great numbers of every variety at super cheap prices every weekend. Alot of people don't realize that 1/2 of 1/2 of 1/2 of ALL 911 production went to POMONO. Even grandma's drive them there to the market.

Enjoy the hunt.
