Possible scam alert

I posted a WTB for a smaller Porsche part today and pretty quickly got a private message from a guy with 0 posts and an October 2015 (no date) saying, "I have one for sell. Send me email address for pictures." I sent him an email from one of my junk accounts just to be cautious. I just find it hard to believe someone with 0 posts is legit. I will see what happens if he sends me photos and a shipping quote. If this goes well, no issue. If it gets suspicious, I will post the seller's screen name. Yeah, I know....I don't trust anyone these days.

Man, is it ever nice to be close enough to go to John Walker's swap meets.

Exchanging parts for cash, face-to-face. Usually a familiar face.

Same thing happened to me..

I didn't even respond. Wanted me to respond to his email account, not the Pelican account. Be very careful!!

Happens a good bit. Recent join date, low post count, no contributions to the community - do not even waste your time responding. That is not a guarantee, mind you. Just weeds out the obvious.

I posted a WTB recently. Even put in the ad "do not bother if you have a low post count". Guy PM'd me anyway with a link to his website of the wrong part (but he "really" had the right one) at an asking price about 50% more than I could buy a new part from Pelican.

The reason scammers do this stuff is because it works.

My pal in Asheville sold some little part off his GT3. Like, $700. Buyer sent him a check for $1500 with the directive to wire back the difference once the check cleared.

Pal was tuned into this and told bank "This prolly ain't gonna clear, if given a few days". Just letting them know he felt it was a scam.

Sho' nuff. Five days later. Too the moon it bounced. Legitimate big name company check. Not personal.

Yeah - these POS scammers should be drawn and quartered for sure. I gave him my junk email to see what he would try next. It appears I have a snorkel coming for free from a true Pelican. I am awaiting pictures. Hopefully it is the right one and in good condition.
