Oil level

What is the trur amount of oil for the 911 engine.I own a 914-6,It holds ten quarts.My brother ownes a 73 911E and I think it holds ten quarts.How ever the 101 projectsd book states that it holds twelve quarts.
I'M confuzed.

I think when you change the oil you will use about 10 quarts. Drain the oil lines and coolers and you get about 11 quarts.

I think what is confusing you is the total oil capacity of your engine vs. the refill quantity at an oil change.

For example, my 3.2 liter engine's capacity is 13 quarts, but at an oil change I can only add about 10 quarts. If I was rebuilding my engine, I would add 13 quarts to refill the system.

Most 911 engines have residual oil (2 or 3 qts.) in engine after you have drained the tank and sump at an oil change.

tip the car on end and you'll get 2 more. bone dry, the system usually will take 12 easy. but they're never bone dry unless the engine is new.

The engine in question is the 73 and is a brand new rebuild
