'86 911 Cabriolet
Have located an '86 911 Cabriolet w/57K miles in perfect condition cosmetically and mechanically. I know the early 911's and 356's well, but don't know the market value of a car in this condition/mileage. Any opinions or comparable sales would be appreciated.
Thanks, Reed |

My 2 cents.
Low 20's if it is really nice. Mid-high teens if less than that. I have had 911's with and without the G-50 transmission. There is a big difference. I would go for an 87-89 personally (G-50 trans). But if the car is really straight and you want it, get it. I learned to drive PORSCHES in a 78 SC. The trans in that (915?) was not so bad. Hey its a PORSCHE! Idiosyncracies are expected. Oil leaks are not though. Get a PPI of course. Good luck and have fun during your search for your PORSCHE.

I also have an 86 cab. Mine has right at 100K miles and i paid $23,000 for it. I knew the seller and trusted him (I didn't get a PPI because I ws ignorant back then) and ended up gettng very striaght clean running car. I liked the color combination mine had since I had not seen very many of them, and my wife and I were looking for a convertible.
I think that it also depends on where you are that determines the value. Here in Northern Colorado there are not very many convertible mid 80's Carreras, so unless one is willing to travel, the selection is limited. I am sure Wayne and some others will say $23,000 was to high for my car, but my time was worth something, so i could not afford to travel to find the "best deal". I guess if you like the car, and its in your price range, buy it. Its your money. I am perfectly happy with my pre G50 car. It shifts fine and runs perfectly, with no electrical problems or oil leaks or excessive oil consumption. Good luck, if you buy it, I hope you are as happy as I have been! Bill |
