Cost to reverse an updated body? 1971 911T
I'm looking casually at a 911T that's been updated to wide-body 964 looks. What's the cost / work required to "backdate" the car to it's original body? Are all of the panels essentially bolt-on, or was fabrication required to put the updated panels on, which would need to be removed to fit the stock panels again? Keeping the wide rear fenders is fine, but everything else I'd want to replace with stock style.

When a lot of these LWB cars were updated the front latch panel was replaced to accept the short hood. If you can do your own bodywork and welding it can be done reasonably, however if you take it to a shop and have all the work done it will get very expensive. The hood is easily replaced once the correct early latch panel is in place. The front fenders are bolt on but finding a good set of early fenders is almost impossible these days and the repros don't seem to fit well. Again, if you can weld you can add the early front turn signal pieces to the late fenders. Then it really depends on what else was done.... Rear flares, interior, etc.

I am in the same boat, my 72T was converted to a wide body. I would guess cutting the rear flares off and having new ones welded on would be very expensive. Fenders and hood wouldn't be too hard if you have a little welding skill. You would just need to weld on the hood latch panel and bolt on a new hood and fenders.
I would love to do it one day but until I get MUCH better with a welder I will just enjoy it the way it is. ![]()

Dudes. It's not THAT difficult to weld. I did the flares on my car, with no experience. I have no words for that yellow and purple slantnose. Just...wow.
Get yourself a harbor freight welder for 200 bucks, or get one on Craigslist. You'll do great, and we'll help you!
