Are these pop-outs chrome or bright aluminum

Hey guys - I just bought a set of pop-outs that came from a 1970T that was parted out. Supposedly, 1968 through 1973 used the bright aluminum pop-outs but I have my doubts whether these are aluminum because don't know if they're original to the car and they're quite shiny.

Can anyone tell from the pics or let me know how to tell the difference.? Neither brass nor aluminum are magnetic so can't use that. They feel about the same weight as aluminum pop-outs that I've had in the past, but I don't know how much an aluminum pop out should weigh with the glass so can't compare that. I would like to confirm one way or another.

Any tips or suggestions on how to do this without removing material or scratching? If someone has an aluminum pop out with glass that they can weigh, can you post it here? I can then compare the weight with mine since the brass should be heavier.

Thank you.

Mike

Looks like chrome from over here in NY.

Let us know what you discover.

Magnet does not stick to it, and these look like my buddy's pop-outs on his 73S. They look chrome to me but some polished aluminum also have a similar finish. Anyone know how much the aluminum pop outs weigh (with glass)?

Mike, I just went out and measured my aluminum assemblies. I just so happened to be adding new seals and had a scale handy. BTW, the finish looks like chrome but suspect its bright anodizing.

59-60 oz for the frame, glass and inner seal. 65 oz with a new outer seal.

Thank you David. I just weighed mine, and it is 64.5 ounces with the both inner and outer seals so it's real close to what you have. My outer seal is older so that could explain the slight difference.

If it is stainless a magnet won't stick.
