Valence Options after Deer Strike
Hit a deer recently. Looks like I'll need the right fender and hood replaced, repair of the front valence, a new smile (mine and the car's) and all the associated stuff. I have decided to have the whole car painted since the front has been repainted twice for various reasons, but the roof and rear quarters have not, so the difference shows.
It is a great opportunity to consider replacing my custom made front valence (made it to house a Mocal cooler) with a fiberglass one. I made this one to keep the stock look, but I'm not so sure I care as much about that anymore. I've narrowed down the choices to four: 930S, Ruf style valence only, Ruf style bumper and valence, or fix what I have. What do you guys think? I'd appreciate your opinions. Definately Ruf bumper and valance (and rear bumper). Light weight, looks great and no more ugly accordians...

I love the RUF front (and IROC rear), but can't seem to get used to that "fat lip" look of the shelf on the RUF bumper...

George,
Sorry to see that you had a run in with the wildlife but as long as you are having to paint and repair make it better than it was! One nice thing about any of the options is that you can get rid of the front bumper and its extra weight! Joe

On the accordion cars, I have to say that the Ruf valance is the best one out there. I love it, if I had an accordion car that is what I would put on it. Since your car is dark, IMHO I don't think the Ruf bumper will change the look much. On a white or light-colored car it would be a different story. Just my $.02, it is your car after all!
BTW, that is one major dent! Sorry ![]()

Damn you Bambi. George, I loved the custom valence that you built. I'd do another one of those.

I realy liked your custom valance as well. That is the one I'd like to put on my car.

Thanks for the inputs, guys. Keep 'em comin'. I'm really having a hard time with this decision.
Scott's comment about darker colored cars and the accordions is a good consideration. The weight loss is always a good thing as well. I even considered a glass hood for a short time. I made the custom valence from two used parts. I got a Carrera one with the foglight holes and moved it as far forward as possible to the front edge of the bumper. I then cut the ends off and welded extenders (ends from another valence) to fill the gaps to the edge of the wheel well. I had to piece the chin spoiler together as well from two used ones since the new "extended" valence is longer from end to end. A little bondo, sanding, a hole for the cooler and a quick spray completed the project. I had to fabricate custom mounting brackets out of that perforated 1.5" stock to mount it to the bottom of the bumper. Also had to cut some of the bottom of the bumper out so the top of the cooler would fit behind it. BSR bumper ducts fill the foglight holes for oil and brake cooling.

For light colored cars, the bumper bellows are not very nice looking. Look at Bill Verberg's or Cary's car and you will see two beautiful options.
If you are keeping your original dark color, the bellows are no problem at all and your original custom spoiler looks as good or better than any of the others shown. Very clean look. If I were you, I'd build another one.
