Clutch rebuild and basic maintenance problem - help

After a clutch rebuild by expensive mechanic and basic maintenance 30,000 miles, my engine was "ticking". I took it back to him right away and he said he heard it once on the test drive but it went away. Said it sounds like a tensioner now and is looking into it. I trust this guy and he is supposed to be the best in the area but could this have been caused by dropping the engine, the basic maintenance or clutch job? Or is it just "one of those things". Engine was running perfect before it lost the clutch. I need a second opinion.

customers often hear things after a repair that were there before, but now they're more sensitive to it because it's been in the shop. the tech usually has no idea that the problem was there previously, unless it's doing it right there in front of him. a chain tensioner can be off/on, so let's see what he comes up with.
