help: seat belt recoils locked

Hi - I have a few rear sear Repa recoilers that are locked somehow. When I tug on the belt they won't draw out. Is there a trick? I've tried to set the recoiler on a level surface and hold it at different angles. is there a release or reset button someplace?

Try holding it in the position that it would be in when installed in the car-it should release then.

Actually, I found that I could not even hold it at the correct angle by hand, rather it required being being lined up with the mounting holes in the car in order for the belt to release. Pretty interesting little piece of engineering.

The other way most times this works,you pull on the belt really hard i mean
100 ibs plus slowly and strong , then release the belt very slowly then it usually works.

I thought the same with mine but when mounted they work fine.

try holding the belt vertically. That's the position the inertia reel wants to release
