Leland Pate's engine photo album

Leland

Congratulations, a very educational site, with some high quality images.

You had the cases etc. "hot tanked", is there a more technical description of this process so that I can find someone in the UK to carry it out on my stripped 2.8?

Hey Nick,

I would think that you could find a place to hot tank your case halves, cam towers, heads etc.

You just need to find a shop that has a hot tank for "ALUMINUM". Or Al-u-mineum... or howevery you guys say it.
There are hot tanks that are built for iron which can melt/damage aluminum parts.

So, after you make sure that the tank is designed for aluminum, your good to go.

Another thing... make absolutely sure that you have removed all gaskets and o-rings before having the parts dipped. They will melt.

Oh, and another thing... remove the two oil pressure by-pass springs and plungers from the case halves before being dipped too... they can get real stuck!

I can't give you any specific places in the UK to look up... might try a couple parts stores or a good engine rebuilding shop.

Also, you may find some helpful information in this Tech Article that I wrote last year detailing my engine rebuild.

Glad to hear that the picture gallery was of some help to you.

Your 2.8 case is probably magnesium.
