Targa owners: install rear beading without glass/trim removal?

Hi all,

The lower beading on my targa window is cracked in a few places. This is the one that goes around the base of the glass, along with the aluminum trim (tucked under, I gather), past the engine compartment. I replaced the top one already, that was easy.

I'm thinking about trying to replace it for appearance and water-tightness, but don't want to go through the whole adventure of removing the rear glass. Is it possible to lift the trim oh-so-gently and tuck the new beading underneath it? Has anyone accomplished this feat?

It's the piece with the red arrow pointing to it in this pic:

Looks like nobody will touch this one. I've heard it can be a nightmare working with the glass. I to own a targa and would like to know if it's possible...

I was just pondering this over the last few months. My situation being different where I don't have any beading, and only learned this in inspecting other cars.

When the PO had the car sprayed, apparently the body guy decided to just leave it out...

I may yank my glass in time because I have a Singer-esqu detail I want to complete on the stainless bar cover that I've yet to see executed on any Targa

Have you tried getting to the screws with everything is place?

I think it can be done. How flexible is your main window rubber?

Pretty sure you can replace with glass in place - just been so long since i've messed with it I can't remember. I will go take a look at my car later today - maybe this will jog my memory.

Yes, glass must come out, which is not all that bad with help. Could be a spot of rust that needs attention there to, always is in that area. Get the oem weatherstrip, if you still can, the aftermarket one is junk, dont even attempt to use it. Be careful of the press in beading, bends real easy.

I just remember the screws are not set that deeply inside the window rubber.

Couple of fasteners in the wheel well.

That said, I have never done it and there is risk. I can see the metal strips in the rubber bending when gaining access, then you are screwed.
