Australian Classic Car 2003 Year book has done a comparison of past and present selection of classic cars, side by side with their contemporary siblings predicted as future classics:-
The 53TF MG v’s 2002 TF, the 66 230SL v’s the 2002 320 SLK, the 72 BMW 2002 v’s the 323i etc. Even the 43 Willys Jeep v’s the 2002 Cherokee! Well, they’ve included Porsche (dare they not!) - the 56 356B 1600S Cab v’s the 2002 Boxster!?! Sure, the current Boxster is a thoroughbred Porsche and I like them, but, IMO, a mixed brew of a budget 911 speedster (albeit commanding - $90k AUD down here for a first generation!!) and partly retro-styled on the 356. I thought the evolution of the 356 is the 911?

I agree...
My thought of the Boxster is the evolution of the 914...so the Boxster is like a new water cooled 914!

I agree too,
The 356 to the 911. But, The 550 to the Boxter IMHO.

I just finished checking the recycler www.recycler.com and it is full of standard model Boxsters with under 40,000 miles for under $27k.
Seems to me that the price on these things is dropping like a rock. The S models seem to be holding their own for now. I figure about three more years and i'll be able to pick one up for cheep and strip it out completely and turn it into a track car. |
