Hagerty classic car insurance
Hi, our local government run car insurance here in BC Canada ICBC, is no longer providing "agreed value insurance" in connection with their "Collector" car insurance. Having unsatisfactory dealings with ICBC in the past I am seriously contemplating to go with Hagerty.
I would love to hear from members that had dealings with Hagerty, good and bad and are they to be recommended ?! My car is a 1988 Carrera Cabriolet valued as per Hagerty at $55k. Any input would be greatly appreciated. CHEERS ! WITT ! !

I used Hagerty for years and from what I have heard they are great to deal with. You tell them what you want to insure the car for and you pay it.. I always paid yearly. Not a bad price..
Since my engine rebuild I have not switched back...It is a bit cheaper than my normal insurance company...

Hagerty quoted me at $1100/year. Stated value $45k. Westfield Insurance $390 with same stated value. Also a 1988 911 Cab. I stuck with Westfield. I did get a credit for Winter layup.

They have a good rep with the collector car insurance crowd...I've been with them for 12 years now.
As with any underwriter read the fine print as it varies State to State...in some areas you have mileage limits and others do not. Makes a difference if you 'drive' your car. I do.

I'm going through this process right now here in CA. I have three quotes for nearly equivalent coverage on two vehicles ($45K and $25K agreed value). Hagerty was highest at $1349, Heacock was second highest at $1029, and Grundy was cheapest by far at $608. Also, Grundy had best coverage. Check them all out before deciding. It pays.

I recently went with Grundy. $330.00 a year with 45k agreed value. Hagrettys quote was $1100.00 and heacock was at $660.00 all with same value and comparable coverage.
Good hunting to you. |

All insurance is great until a claim...that's what you need to check.

I used them, there are restrictions.
You can't use it for work, or go shopping. It can't be your daily driver. I paid $180 per year based on a $25000 value. I'd use them again if I buy another older car.

I would LOVE to find one that would let me take my car to work with some reasonable agreed value.

^^^ So True!
I don't know if American National Property and Casualty writes in Canada; maybe they have a Canadian affiliate. But I love these guys rate-wise. They have a "Gold Program" for our kind of cars. I declared the value to be $25,000, sight unseen. I know it's worth more but, as of now, that's what I have in it. The only restriction is that I can't race it and must keep mileage under 7,500 miles per year. Neither restriction is a hindrance. My latest bill for one year is $184.00 and I have the same coverage as for my Mercedes-Benz. Check 'em out. Best, Tom |

I was in a serious one year to today. I had an agreed policy value with Hagerty. Due to a head injury I have no recollection of the accident (Good news is the only property damage was my own and no one else was involved). Although my wife was in contact with them while I was in the hospital and recovering (she has nothing but positive remarks to add about their service) I didn't talk with them for almost a month. When I did, I prepared myself with a stack of receipts and braced for the upcoming debate. After the agent checked on my well being he asked where I'd like the check sent. No discussion needed. It was the best insurance experience I've ever had. With that said I will gladly pay a little more of a premium for that kind of service should I ever need to make a claim again. Hagerty has my bussiness.

Wow that was a hard hit!
I had just upgraded my coverage due to the increase in value of the SC. Set me back a whopping $96 to increase the declared value. No questions from their service agent. My only complaint is that sometimes their online payment system doesn't let me pay and sometimes it does...

I have 3 cars with Hagerty, total agreed value is $155K - my annual premium is $1150. I'm sure age has a lot to do with the variations we are seeing, I'm over 55 with no tickets.

Wow. Sounds like a great deal. I am also well over 55, no tickets, store the car indoors, don't drive it to work and have 3 other vehicles insured elsewhere. Maybe your location, multi-cars and maybe long history with Hagerty get you a much better rate. I checked online and also with a local agent and received similar quotes from Hagerty.

I currently have 17 cars under Hagerty. I have made two claims in the past 10 years and they were awesome. I am currently working with them to donate a car I will never finish to one of their organizations that provides the cars to school shop programs.
Interestingly, the only glitch I had with them was on the 911. Because of the year and the mods, their underwriting process defines the car as more likely to be used. This puts the car into a higher risk category and increases the rates. I argued with them quite a bit about this, as I found this to be 100% presumptuous. They have no idea how much I will be driving the car, and, if I do not exceed any of the policy restrictions, how can they justify the increase rate? My argument fell on deaf ears. My $30k 911 cost more to insure than cars with substantially more agreed-to value. Seems very stupid. But I am fine with that being my only complaint.
