What is this SC part (pic)?

Was browsing ebay, and came across this part - what the heck is it? It is labeled as a "PORSCHE 911 sc 3.0 control unit"

I have a 82 RoW-engine sitting in the garage, waiting to mate with my -72 Targa, and I now wonder if I need to buy yet ANOTHER part to get it working... or do I have this part already mounted on the engine somewhere, or what gives?

Bosch Jetronic, fuel injection "computer"?

Nickshu 10-05-2001 03:50 AM

That unit is just what you said. Its the control unit for the CIS on 80-82 US model SC's. Its main function is to control the O2 sensor/frequency valve on these cars.
It is located under the passenger's seat.

Nick.

Sheeiiit... that means that I need one, right?
I thought that the CD-box was all the external electronics I needed to get the engine running, but I was apparently misinformed.

The flow of $$$ never stops, does it?.... http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/sad2.gif

Hey, wait a minute - one of you guys say "control unit for the CIS on 80-82 US model SC's" - the key word being US : is it the same for the RoW cars?

Did you get, or can you get the harness from the old installation? You will need it too.

I have the harness going from the engine to the CD-box, if that is what you mean?

Under the Passenger seat! Jeez Louise!

I've got my rear speakers, with twin 15 inch woofers and twin 8 inch mid-ranges, plugged into it. No wonder the bass sounds so anemic.

if you have a frequency valve behind the fuel distributor, then you need the computer. if not, it's a true ROW.

BenWillis 10-05-2001 07:40 AM

John, Whats it look like?

Bo 10-05-2001 11:15 AM

(big sigh of relief http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif )
I was kind of worried there for a while; since it's a verified RoW-engine, I guess I don't need it then... http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/biggrin.gif
That's reason enough to go get another beer from the kitchen! It's 9 PM here, so that makes it, let's see,.. number four for tonight.
Cheers guys! http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif

ben, the freq valve looks like a 914 electric injector, with a snap on square plug. it's on 80-83 usa SCs, on the firewall side of the fuel distributor, inline on a fuel hose. it rattles when the engine runs. if it's there, it has to work.

John was the (smart) guy who suggested pulling the plug on this computer, just so you can see what effect it has on the motor....Answer: It runs like $hit without the computer/freq. valve!
