69 911t targa How do you get to the brackets that hold the gages in. There is no room under the dash to get to them?

You can't get to them from under the dash. Open the trunk and shine a light towards the gauges. It may be easier to removed the blower motor assembly first.

From the front trunk. Helps to have small hands, slender arms, and a lot of patience. But its not as bad as it looks. If you get one gauge out, you can access the one next to it through the opening of the one you removed, and so on. Once you've got two, the rest go quickly.

Thanks guys, I figured out that if I remove the dash speaker I could get to the back of the clock. Then through the clock hole I got the speedo. And so on across the dash. Thanks the suggestions. I will try going through the trunk to put them back in.

is removing factory gauges in a 71 the same deal.? I heard that they were just pressed in.? Thx

I can't remember when they changed. It was around 1971, give or take a year. Have a look at the back side of yours with a flashlight. It will be obvious.

Yea if you pull the dash speaker out , just 4 screws, you can see the back of the clock. There are two thumb screws on either side of the gauge. They may be tight but is was able to get mine loose with my fingers.

Anyone know if the pre 71 and post 71 gauge gaskets are the same. If the post 71 gaskets is thicker I might order those and just pressure fit mine when I reinstall and leave the brackets off.
