Partial Drop G50 Tranny side
OK, I did extensive search and can't find the answer so here's my question...if doing one a partial drop of the tranny side only on a G50 what needs to be disconnected? I've done it in the past but it was a LONG time ago and have forgotten (senior brain syndrome). I am replacing the clutch slave cylinder (again) and I seem to recall the only thing i disconnected was the ground strap and the throttle linkage, but maybe I am mis remembering...wouldn't be the first time.

You are definitely missing something. Disconnect the shift coupler from the trans tail shaft. Be sure it is clear before you start to drop. You can break the coupler. Makes for a bad day. BTDT.

Sorry, forgot to mention I have disconnected the shift coupler...yes, that would have been very bad if I'd forgotten that, thanks for the reminder! The main thing I'm wondering about are the numerous hoses/lines that are in that area and it's sort of hard to tell if any of them would be affected by a small drop of 3-4 inches.

Depending on how your speedometer sending unit wires are secured to the trans, you might want to disconnect that wire grouping too.
Keep in mind the slave cylinder fluid line is normally attached to the side of the trans with a plastic clip which captures the steel part of the line. I'd pop that out of the clip so you don't break the clip. In all honesty, most cars are found with the line not snapped into the clip and it's really not a problem to find it that way. |
