A Quickie, AKA exorcising PTSD in Vermont

Just got back from a great weekend with 'our' group after making a weekend run from NY to Vermont.
As some know we have done NY-MA-VT runs in the past where we met quite a few Pelicans. Unfortunately that run was curtailed after a group of us were falsely accused by a particularly bellicose member of the VT LEO community of doing 85 in a 30. That lie led to us taking a break from the verdant beauty of the great state of Vermont. But last weekend in a snap decision we decided to confront the residual PTSD and head back to get the a glimpse of the fall color.

2015 had been a busy year for all of us so we hadn't had the chance to do a group trip other than the Hersehy Sawp way back in the late spring. Those who follow our NY travel threads will know we usually attempt something massively ambitious like driving to Tennessee in a day, or getting boats to Canadian Peninsulas. Having learned a bit this time we found a base camp from which we could drive out and sample the fantastic twisty roads and routes around and through the Green Mountain National Forest, VT 100, VT 30, VT7A, Tyson Road, RT 133, 100A, among many others.
Gotta say a big thankyou to Felipe who did a terrific job of leading in the monster Boxster, tho its tough to keep up with all that power in a car that weighs nothing !

Thanks to the commitment of everyone this trip came together very quickly. After we decided to go Sunday Raj Paul and I having the longer distance to travel all took Friday off so we could get to the house before dark ... famous last words.
Initially the plan was to take 87 up and then jump on the twisties. In the end that didn't happen but we still had a good first day. Paul Raj and I met about 10:30 and made it up through the city to the Palisades heading to 87.

It turned out to be a much nicer run than expected, and even though overcast, the weather was warm and as usual Paul went topless.

Because its a 5 hour + drive up and we wanted to stop en route and get a leisurely lunch, we booted it a bit. All the cars were all running well and the three of us democratically shared the lead. On 87 we ran into a very excited guy in Black Ferrari, we had some fun with him traversing all three lanes 'exercising' the cars. I was too busy driving to get a pic but we got the enthusiastic thumbs up from him and his very pretty passenger.
After a late stop for food we crossed into VT not long after Adam and Felipe had left Worcester MA. We were about an hour ahead of them and our plan was to get the the house first to claim the best bedrooms. We were doing well until the sky turned black as we entered the Green Mountain Forest on Rt7. The sky looked ominous ...

It got pretty nasty wet and dark for the last 40 mins, and we had an unscheduled stop t put Pauls roof on. (You know its raining hard if Paul's car is buttoned up) but eventually the rain stopped and we found 'Poppell dungeon Road'.

A quick trip to meet the locals and buy some refreshments we had the fire going and had chosen the best rooms, sorry Felipe & Adam !

After a couple of hours we heard a very loud rumble ... Our water cooled brethren had arrived with more 'refreshments'

This was the first time we'd seen Adam since he had come back from driving cross country in the 912, and he passed through NY on the way home. That time he did Bear Mountain and more importantly Kanawauke road RT106 with the 912 and James bought his green 356 out. Since then perhaps James' car had influenced his thinking ...

Part 2

After a good night and some lively discussion we woke up to see what our rented house looked like, and unfortunately our exploration coincided with a small shower so Paul and I put the barns to good use.

Adam and Felipe then discovered the source of all the strange noises heard in the night.

We decided the house is the perfect venue for a Halloween run we plan on putting together next year !
Of course soon the rain stopped and it was time to get back to the serious business of talking and surveying everyone's cars and what mods have been done or are going to be done.

Raj's beautiful wheels look good in any light.

Another nice set if wheels and sexy rubber hoping to get all that 997 power down.
Adam showed up in his new find, a very nice looking 996 C4 ... Adams an avid winter sportsman so there is some serious consideration behind the decision to find a four.
I always think somehow the 996 looks so much better in person than in pics. And the green really works well.

Getting a pro to examine your new paintwork

Felipe finally called it and it was time to get to the serious business

We headed out and began to explore.

There are some great roads which driven at some speed are thrilling and the elevation changes coupled with VT's beauty means we really must venture there more often.

The sun came out and we spent the rest of the daylight driving these cars as they were made to be driven.

We stopped a few times, usually after an epic series of twisty roads. At this stop we found a giant table ?

Part 4

After a great days driving we headed back to the house and the serious business of food and a couple of beers, afterwards we sat round the fire where discussions ranged from everything Porsche related, to extensive discussion of the Clown Shoe Bimmer. Eventually we resumed normal service and sourced everyone's favorite Porsche videos on Youtube. Adam took the crown with this gem which was played at high volume through the house stereo ...

We made it home in great time, and with no tickets !
Overall it was a fantastic quick trip, with a successful formula which we resolved to do again. Thanks to Paul, Raj, Felipe and Adam and look forward to the last Metro AX of the year next weekend and seeing the group for Dave's terrific Turkey run.

Cheers !

Looks like a good trip. I know that part of Southern Vermont very well. The roads you mention driving are well traveled by my family, but usually in the SUV . (My wife's father actually has a ski house in the area)

I took a look at the posts about your travels, and i see a lot of the same faces and cars. Do you let outsiders join your fun ? Nowadays i'm spending a lot of my time in NYC, and was really hoping to attend the thanksgiving run this year to introduce myself and hopefully meet a few Pelicans. Unfortunately because of a family commitment I can't, but is there an email link, or somewhere you post information about these trips ?

Can I come too?

Hey guys, NY here but have a house in VT. 90% sure I saw you guys in Ludlow. I was grinding my teeth as the Porsche was back in NY. If ever you choose to go and like the gentleman who posted before me, if the club is not closed I would l love to join next time and if next year maybe I can host. Also a great road to take up is 22 to VT RT7. PM me if you want.

Regards.
