After all, what´s this so called Thermo reactor? :)

Dear Friends

I´m rebuilding this 1976 911 coupe that i recently purchase, and I heard that those cars in the past was equipped with this "thermo reactor" for the emission control
And i heard that this is terrible for the car since make it run hotter
So I would like to know what´s it? Where is it, so i can locate it and remove it from the car
But I have no idea what I´m looking for or where is it located/installed

Thanks

Ricardo,

The thermal reactors are basically the exhaust manifold of your 76' (the pipes between the engine and the muffler). They cause the engine to run hot and can cause premature valve guide failure. You can backdate your exhaust and your car will love you for it. Good luck!

Most thermo-reactors on those cars went into the scrap heap several decades ago. It did not take long for folks to figure out they were bad news for cooking the cylinder heads/valve guides.

They say that ''A picture is worth a thousand words'' But in this case is worth 10,000
I don´t have this kind of canister on my exhaust heads, so, I think I´m OK
Mine exhaust manifold looks like thathttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1447854179.jpg

You are fine, there are no thermal reactors on your engine.

not only have the thermal reactors been removed, but they have been replaced by a set of early, header/heat exchangers that provide a much better, free flowing exhaust system and increased power.
