I just did a search and was unable to find any info on this topic. I need to replace a distributer belt for a 91 C/2 and I could really use some help. How do you do it ? Thanks for your help

I hate to divert traffic from Pelican, but check out the 964 forum on rennlist.com. This topic has been discussed extensively, including instructions on how to replace the belt yourself. Basically, your options are to replace the entire distributor ($$$), remove the distributor and send it to someone who can replace the belt for you ($200), or do it yourself. I had a local Porsche dealer replace my belt for $250.
Also, be sure to install a vent kit if your car doesn't have one already. Most people also recommend replacing the belt every 50-60K miles, regardless of the vent kit. Mine was replaced at 50K miles and the belt was in pretty good condition. Drew 92 C2 |

Thanks Drew, Can you recommend someone to do the job besides a dealership or is a dealer the best place to go?

If it were me, I'd buy the belt and do it myself. Between here and Rennlist, I'm sure you'll be able to do it if you're halfway comfortable with DIY. I like do stuff myself because the nearest independent Porsche place is 125 miles or so away, and because I have more time than money - it's also *very* satisfying.

I would like to eion, but I cant seem to find any detailed info. I searched here, I searched on rennlist and found some directions that where hard to follow, and no pics. I am in the middle of a full tune up ,valves , filters etc and I feel pretty comfortable, but for some reason that dist is a little scary. I could really use some direction. Thanks

Full instructions can be found on www.porsche964.co.uk/
If you don't want to do it yourself, lots of people send 'em to Steve Weiner in Portland, OR. You can find him on Rennlist. Jon |

for a 1/2 hour job, $250 seems a might high. maybe an hour, tops, including R+R. you don't even have to remove the secondary distributor parts, just remove the main shaft and upper windings and seperate the case halves a bit.
