clear coat yellowing
Our 911 has an 16 year old repaint that is starting to fade or yellow a bit. Garaged always. It was painted with a Duron single stage paint, not water-based. Question, can the finish in the top surfaces be cleaned up with say, a Klasse all in one or some other cleaner? Maybe a very light wet sanding and a buffing? Or strip the clearcoat and reapply (not something I am keen to get into)? Any knowledge of clear coat restoration on the Board?

if its a single stage it would not have a clear coat. When you rub the paint out is there any color on the rag?

No paint on rag. Maybe the paint shop put a clear coat over the paint. The old can of paint (now that I'm reading says: Delstar (DAR) 33511 Prime....Porsche Pewter Poly, Zinn Met) Can a clear coat be placed over a single stage or maybe its not a single stage. Obviously, paint is not my area of expertise.

Metallic will likely have a clearcoat. They probably gave you a bit of base coat in case you had to match a repair in the future.
There are a million things you could do to it, but if it's yellowed significantly the yellow may be all the way through the clear and can't be fixed. A good polishing will certainly help freshan it up. |
