career SC owner intro
 

Following a year of total enjoyment here I’m getting the routine and ready to break in. Two 911’s in the past 35 yrs with a famous racing mechanic (FRM) that pretty much cares for all my needs. 1979 SC coupe came to me in 1988 with 22K miles and a recommendation from FRM to buy it or the others waiting in the shop would. Maybe an unusual car with manual windows and no AC (no its not a gray market), SR, 16” alloys, power mirrors and everything including the plastic bag for the tools and disposable gloves. Now over 205K fair weather miles with a special 3.2 max Moritz style motor that realty makes you smile. Almost all original paint with an interior in need of recaro sportsters. Blessed is the word I think of often
This site has me considering mods I’ve only dreamed of. I was on the fiberglass bumper path until the official modified bumper thread grabbed me and rear is now in process. Other lightening and improving plans will keep me busy for years. Track days every few yrs, maybe more as upgrades come and I see an autocross in my future

Lots of questions to come like has anyone figured out how to get that lovely mahogany band on the bottom of the early 911s dash on the later cars? Similar to the way the Singer’s have the crosshatched leather
Also need to work on my cars stance/presence. A bit more aggressive I believe. 7x16’s all around currently, no spacers. Does the rear need 8’s and spacers or can I just do one or the other? Thanks ahead Cheers

Popular tire/wheel upgrades are put 7" wheels in front and either 8 or 9" in the rear. No spacers required if you are talking "stock" fuchs.

Nice ride...I've lightened my '83 SC quite a bit and modded it (put a Euro '83 SC 930-10 in place) seats, interior strip, etc...did the back fender strip/weld up and added a duck but kept the basic SC look. I did drop the side valences too as it looks good without and well...weight.
That 3.2 sounds nice in the car....I'm getting about 225 HP out of the Euro and that is fun...250 would e just right in a lighter car.

Agee. It's exactly like my SC. Spend some time driving it stock before you decide what upgrades you want.

Thanks Reiver can you show some photos and details of your mods? interested in how much weight you lost and any downsides to the mods. Also details on the driving feel changes. Duck is definitely in consideration, side valence delete is a question.

And yes I plan to carefully consider all improvements and make them just that. It's a street car and while I love the lightweight changes I still enjoy an armrest and listening to Motown along with that glorious motor
