air scoop

I am thinking about mounting an air scoop on the engine grill on my 75 911S to get more air to the engine and hopefully get it to run cooler. It's 15 3/4" x 6"x 13/4 cast Al. Easy mount. What problems if any might this cause.

It MAY get you a little more air{at speed} but you'd be better off upgrading your oil cooling system or at least make sure it is working properly. What temps are you seeing that have you concerned?

It will do virtually nothing for your engine temps and will mess up what may be an otherwise perfectly good deck lid. If you need more cooling, follow Oh Haha's excellent suggestion.

It's been discussed and tried by quiet a few here (use search function) and the end result was negative. The fan pulls more air in than the scoop can provide unless you are traveling at race track speeds. Better look into additional oil coolers.

What they said:

At low speed, it's your oil cooling system that needs improvement. Either the oil cooler, fans or both.

At high speed, it's the spoiler configuration.

Not sure what condition your engine is in, but recommend avoiding the scoop and chasing things in this order:

- Get cylinder fins/heads/oil cooler clean
- Verify engine oil thermostat is working correctly
- Install 11-blade fan (if you've got a 5-blade for some reason) and overdrive pulley
- External t-stat and cooler
