porsche 1989 25th anniversary

just wondering if anybody owns or knows any thing about the 89 25th anniversary cars and what all was different about them. Does this make the value of the car go up at all or?what all was different about them?

I just bought one...

Hello,

I am no 911 Expert, but I just bought a Silver 1989 25th Ann Coupe 10 days ago.

The car has a special inerior, Silk Grey Leather and nicer than normal velour carpet in the car and the front trunk area. The inner door panels seem to be a little nicer than normal as well. Performance wise, it is the same as a regular 1989 911.

The wheels should be FUCH's with the center painted Silver. The car comes in Black or Silver paint, but all will have the grey interior. Cab and Coupe versions were made, 500 total, 300 Coupe, 200 Cab.

Mine was really sweet, with a PERFECT, like new interior. No wear, no damage, no scratches, no stains, perfect. The ashtray and light never used. The exterior was also close to perfect; the only scratches are tiny chips on the front edge of the hood. The front spoiler was slightly bent, but easily fixed. The wheels were perfect on my car and the tires brand new Conti, the OEM models for this car.

The AC compressor was seized, but otherwise the car is near perfect with 70,000 miles. I am telling you all this so that you know if the price for the car you are looking at is fair.

I found the car on EBAY and bought it after seeing the car in person. The price was $26,500 in Indiana. I paid a lot, but the car is near perrfect. I am not sure how much the special edition influences the price. Most of the guys at the Porsche repair shop never heard of this model, but they all thought that the car was nice. They told me that I paid a fair price, and showed me other Carrera 3.2's that were recently purchased for slightly less, and I am glad that I paid what I did for mine. The tool kit is perfect, the trunk carpet is perfect, the owners manual is in the glove box and perfect, with all mainenance stamps. The stock sound system was still there. That radio sucked, but at least the car had not been modified. This made it easy to replace the radio and speakers using the stock wiring without trashing the interior. I also have every single maintenance receipt from the original owner in a folder.

Be careful if you see a car with low claimed miles on Ebay, but with obvious wear to the steering wheel, shifter, seats and door arm rests. Also, be aware that a new set of FUCH wheels like the originals are very expensive. If you can, have somebody look at the car before you buy. I did not, but that was stupid and I just got plain lucky. I figured that the interior and paint were good indicators of the car's true condittion, and that those items were more costly to repair to new condition than the engine/clutch/brakes etc. I was partly right, but I also got lucky that everything worked out.

Photos attached...

Good luck!

The '89 anniversary edition was a very nice appearance package only. I really like the color combos it came in, especially the rarer metallic black. The interior is gorgeous as seen above.

What makes these cars special is that they are the last 911 Coupes to be built on the old oringinal assembly line before they started making Carerra 2s in the new factory. These are the last of the labor-intensive 911 coupes based on the original 1965 911 coupe. That makes them special to me. I have a standard '89 911 coupe, but I do wish mine was an anniversary edition.

As to their value? $2-3K more than a standard coupe, but I doubt it will ever be more than this.

That car is beautiful. Love the contrasting piping on the seats!

Old Cell Phone

Yes,

That nasty old phone filled 2 shopping bags with the associated hardware that I ripped out. The antennna was on the rear window and they cut the wiper to clear the phone! The stuck the adhesive on the inside of the window, and I was afraid that I would wreck the defroster to get it off. All is well though.

I am keeping the miltary grade phone mounting post just in case I want to add an Ipod holder. I ran an aux-input cable from the new McIntosh head unit (radio) and rolled it up under the passenger side mat.

Sorry,

These were 5 mb camera photos but the web site automatically down samples them. I do not have a scanner and do not have time to go borrow a scanner now.

Dan,

This week is nuts for me and this weekend I am leaving for an overseas trip. When I return, I promise to scant the brochure and post a link to my iDisk site so that you can download the hi rez scans.

Nice car! How long have you had it?

Doug,

Give me a PM when you get a chance to scan the brochure. And please take all the time you need.

I've had mine for about 2 months(purchased with 29K miles with no mods except radio). Already added another 1000 miles to it. I've read a previous post that described our Anniversary cars as the "Eddie Bauer Edition" of that model year

Thanks again for the future scan,

Dan

Very nice car. Seems that Porsche somewhat kept on the lines of the Weissach edition with the matching wheels and seat piping. I like the color combo on the Anniversary edition better than the Weissach, however.

I am confused by one thing, though. I know there was a 25th Anniversay edition in the mid-70's. I think it may have been 1975. I remember the cars at the dealership. They were silver with black and white patterned seats and black interior. No spoilers or rear flares. Why are there two 25th year models, one in the 70's, and one in '89?

Doug, you got a TREMENDOUS buy on your car at $26,500...even back then...Nice examples are now in the upper 40's to 50k...I've seen them advertised for 60k but do not think they are fetching those numbers yet...because of the limited production numbers, they are worth a little more than a non-anniversary Carrera, but will be worth much more later....
Mike, to answer your question, the 75 model year was celebrating 25 years of Porsche, and the 89 Silver Anniversary Edition is celebrating 25 years of the 911 model....sorry, I now realize this post was from 10 years ago...
