My 82sc has developed a substantial oil leak. It appears that it is coming from directly above the front of the right side header. The leak is large enough that I now leave a smoke screen in my wake. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be leaking. My oil return tubes and the valve cover gaskets appear dry.
Thanks, Seth |

Seth your leak is most likely coming from on top of the engine. The thermostat and the oil sender are the most likely candidates.

I would check your right cam tower line. On my 78 SC it started off as a small leak then became a very large leak. So much so that I was adding a quart of oil a week. When I got the chain tensioners upgraded it fixed the problem, since new lines are required. But I would check this out. You should be able to tell if there is oil laying around on the top of the engine sheet metal, directly below and around the A/C compressor. It might also be covering your fan blades. At least it was on mine, that was how bad the leak was. Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys,
I checked the thermostat in the right wheelwell but that seems OK. My oil pressure sender and cam tower oil lines are also OK. My leak seems to be just under the engine oil cooler, is there a fitting or hose that is a common leaker? Thanks, Seth |
