hey john i would like your opinion on one of the threads going on here. the rear seal. should it be flush with the case or inserted past the point of flush?im not try to start a fight or get you in the middle here but i value your opinion and am getting ready to replace this seal and im gonna go with what you say to do. my car is a 2.2t if it matters. thanks for the help

i do them flush, mostly. if there's a serious groove worn into the sealing surface of the crank from the lip of the old seal, the new seal can be positioned so that it's lip runs on a true surface, which might require it be set in deeper. either way works, but originally it was flush.
