External Thermostat replacment

Hi,

It appears that the external thermostat has decided that it is time to stop working......I am sure that Porsche do not need to build any more new cars, the parts market is big enough!

So on to the question.......it looks like you can remove the thermostat and piston by removing the crew on caps, with the large slots in them. Instead of damaging these I made a tool that fits perfectly into the slot and had a large nut to enable a socket to be used.........after the initial light/medium effort there is no movement......so how hard are these things to remove and are there any tricks. Can this be done without removing the housing, or is it just as much work to remove all of the oil lines and do the work on the bench.

Cheers

Mark....

I replaced mine last summer. I always use heat to loosen the nuts. I heard that you can replace the piston in the car but those screws can be a bear. Use heat.

OK......I'll see what I can do with it in the car.....hopefully without setting the whole thing alight. If not then out it comes.

Cheers

Mark.........
