New project arrived '71 911S Targa NEEDS WORK!

I picked up a 1971 911S Targa that I had been trying to buy since August. Complete car but most body work is off. The mild weather here in Northern Indiana on Sunday allowed me to clean it up. It had been sitting for many many years. The previous owner was going to paint it red and make it a track car. My plans are to return it to as close to stock as I can considering it has a 1966 901/05 motor with Webers. Thankfully the interior cleaned up very well. Door panels, dash and Sport Seats are very nice. I also found the manual and papers in the glove box. I'll be attempting my first engine drop. This should be interesting.

Nice score, did the PO eliminate the oil filler door? Will you be putting it back?

Thanks much! Sorry, originally the title of my post said 1972 (it was a typo). I have since changed it. It is a 1971.

Interior looks pretty good. And is that the dealer installed AC? Nice find.

The interior is extremely nice in my opinion. I ordered a COA a few months ago chancing that I would get the car. Factory air was one of the few options. Was it dealer installed back then? I have all of the mechanicals and the dash vents are very nice.

The tires look like they might be originals - or period correct. Great looking project, congrats.

72 was only year with external oil door.

I'm jealous of your snag. Love the seats. And steering wheel just not in that car. It's too new. It would look great in my 930 (which I'm seeking). Put me in line when u dump it I'll buy it or trade u some stuff. Thx and congrats. Mark

Thanks Mark. I couldn't find any info on the steering wheel. Glad I got what I assume is the original with it too. I'll keep your name and let you know about the steering wheel that's on it now.
