Front Blinker help needed
So I just took delivery of a 1980SC.
I need to get the car's safety inspection complete here in in Texas but I am stumped by a problem with the front blinkers. Rear blinkers work. With engine running, front left works sometimes. Front right will not work. Both bulbs are fine. When key in the off position, when signal is put into either position, the corresponding side will stay solid. This tells me that the connections work, and that the bulb works. But when the engine is running the front blinkers (especially the right) will not work. I found the relay and it appears to be brand new. It is from HELLA. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Doug |
The lights that stay on with the ignition off are the parking lights, not the directionals. Check the sockets and wiring for corroded/loose connections

Make sure your grounds are good. I had a crazy directional problem, until I ran a new wire temporarily from the socket to a good ground. Suddenly everything worked fine. So I permanently attached the new wire.
It's also possible your stalk switch is out of alignment. If you search this, you will find a thread on how to bend the connections in the switch back into position. |
Front and rear directionals use the same switch contacts so it's not the switch

Make sure your fuses are ceramic type and are seated well. Clean out your sockets and verify all grounds.
