915 Gearbox- 1st gear binding?
Well, I finally got garage space. Engine and transmission are out. I removed the "nose cone" on the tranny. The first gear synchros and dogteeth are fine. Tried to physically slide the selector fork by hand to get into first gear. It wouldn't go at first. I don't know what was holding it but I am now able to do it. It seems like it is taking a bit more force than I think it should by using the shift rod. (Sliding the gears/dogteeth by hand seems fine.)
Any tranny experts out there? Ideas/Comments? Wayne? Mr. Walker?

that's 5th and reverse under the nosecone. only 901 trannys had 1st and reverse under there. the other two shift rods have to be in neutral in order to move the 5/rev fork.

Whoops. Thanks, John (My first 915). I guess I was more tired than I thought Sunday night. I didn't want to tear into it anymore than I did without putting it on the stand and being as it was 3 in the morning.
I did take the side cover (with selector pivot) off and wasn't able to see anything wrong there either. I will inspect it further this evening. Is there anything else I should look for/know. (Besides doing a little more research or actually looking at a exploded diagram,' ![]()
