Back Dated Heating
For my '85 Carrera, I want to get rid of the engine compartment heating fan that is activated when you pull up the defrost levers between the seats, but still want to be able to use the "footwell" blowers that can be activated when the levers are up (and the engine compartment fan would be on if it were there) and you turn the heater control blower switch (also between the seats) on (positions 1,2 or 3).
Any special wiring changes I need to worry about once I take the engine compartment fan and ducting out? i have all the parts for that. Thanks... |
As I understand it that fan plays a role in cooling the engine if it reaches a certain temperature. I'm not sure how effective it is or how hot the engine needs to be for it to come on. I'm looking for answers to that myself, as I'd love to get rid of that thing.

You will need to take the fan relay out, take the cover off and solder a jumper to bridge the reed switch. It's that item with the coil of wire around it.
