Looks great; why go with that front bumper vs the 73RSR piece (73 rs with flares to match wide body)?

It's a hot rod and I will probably make the brake cooling ducts functional.

Tonight we welded up the exhaust hole in the quarter bumper in preparation for center rear firing exhaust tubes.

We also drilled out the holes in the front tub for the stainless nutserts that will hold the bolts for front bumper brackets. That cost us about 3 drill bits.

Looks great, now that you've got the steel bumper brackets made up you could always make lighter copies in aluminum.

Great thread and stay warm guys !

My body guys is on vacation. I am taking the time to get into the wheel wells and remove all the primer and old shutz in preparation for the new shutz that will be painted body color. They looked like they are covered in tin foil when I was finished.

Rear passenger well done. This was a real PIA. The combination of factory shutz and dealer-applied undercoating is tough! I went through double the amount of discs on the rear versus the front, as the dealer-applied crap was thick and it really gums up the pads.

I've found my build's doppelganger. It is this Kiwi-based build documented on Rennlist.

Orange T - Rennlist Discussion Forums

WOW! Love the color combinations and the execution is amazing. Not sure I will get quite to the level of interior fabrication/modification as Maxem, but it is my inspiration at the moment.

And I've been discussing a couple unique tweaks with my engine guys. They seem "doable" and I will be employing in my build. I'll share more as the build unfolds.

Ok, some progress updates.

Finally tackled the 40 year old torsion bars - well the bar on the passenger side anyway. With a LOT of nudging and prying I got the cover and bar removed. Been dreading it and happy to report it is done without any drama. Tomorrow I will get the driver side.

Going to hopefully hand deliver these plates and bar covers to Shaun at Tru6 this week up in Boston for some of his tumbling and anodizing magic.

Took the first pass on the filler for the driver side quarter. Actually went really fast. My body guy sands with a beefy grit paper on a flexible block while it is still wet! I've only ever seen the filler sanded dry. Seemed weird at first, but then it really allowed him to sculpt the filler. Almost like clay.

The glass quarter on the driver's side already blends in. The passenger side still looks like a bad RWB job. ; )

I think I may have found my interior guy. Went to visit with a local guy named Steve. I took up a set of SC seats to have him do plaid inserts, for another project. If that goes well, I'll use him for this job too. I've got a 2 full hides of saddle brown leather that will be going into the car along with oatmeal square weave carpet.

I kind of dig his work on the '56 Chevy. : ) Seems to know a little about air-cooled Porsche seats too.

Pardon the crap-tastic photo, but we finally got the passenger side pieces lined up and secured with correct gaps. It took us re-welding the metal light boxes and attaching them to the glass fenders by adding metal tabs and then massaging the rubber gaskets to fill the gaps. Curve looks real good. Hood to grill gap is a tish wide, but it has not been fully fitted yet. Feel good it will line up nicely after fitting.

It is the small details that matter.

Trent, you have to edit your quote of his post, you've just doubled his counts.

I put spaces in his original URLs and throughout. Bold is mine.

More updates on the body work later. Now for a little interior peek.

I think I have found my seat materials. Two Ralph Lauren saddle brown leather hides and a Glenn Plaid upholstery material. I will be likely being using an oatmeal square weave carpet too. I know the original factory plaids were fairly loud and didn't exactly match in many cases, but I think I would get tired of those combos pretty quickly. I'm not 100% sure yet with these, but I think I am really close. The leather is definitely going in the build.
