Thanks for the compliment. My primary skills right now seem to be surfing the internet for plaids and parts and spending cash. ; )

More progress on President's Day. Finalized my mirror choice. I settled on a very lightweight Vitaoni Sebring-type mirror. It will be painted the body color. Debating if the slightly dimpled finish should be smoothed out before paint. TBD on that.

Decided against this option which may actually be a late-70's T/A mirrors. They are cool looking, made of metal with a functioning cable remote. I will probably sell these.

Got a good start on welding up the mirror holes on the driver side.

Finalized the rough sanding of both quarter panels. The passenger side is now done.

Both sides in this shot.

These are not for this project, but rather I was using these as a test case for an upholsterer I am considering. They are going into my cherryrot '87. Have not picked them up, but they look great in the pics.

Very cool idea

I've got the same seats in black leather in my 71.

Same colors in the plaid material? I wanted something "retro" feeling and close to the original Porsche patterns, but didn't want to spend the $$$ on OEM fabric as this RSR project
Is soaking up the budget. I would be happy to learn that this fabric is very close to an actual OEM offering.

No, sorry I didn't really complete my thought. I have all black leather versions of those seats, but they would look great in my 71 if I did something similar with plaid inserts. I like what you did!

Well sh*&! It has been 2 months since I've updated this thread. Well a lot has happened and a lot hasn't. My body guy had some personal things crop up that really slowed us down. But this past weekend we got back to work. We did a final fitting on the front fenders. I am running glass fenders so they don't line up quite as easy as metal. We ended up welding a few spaces around the fender bolt to get everything lined up. Once that was completed, we took off the hood and got her back on the rotisserie. She had been sitting on stands for almost 4 months. We flipped her upside down again and got to work finishing the welding on the pan. Somewhere along the line this '77 coupe ran over a log, curb or cinder block. The driver side pan seam was mangled and crushed. Tonight we built it back and then welded up some holes that formed under the pedal cluster.

Speaking of pedal clusters, I had Whit Maltec at Ridge Restorations to redo mine. For awhile we were puzzled about it. Whit said he had only seen one like once before. I assumed it was a hand-built Ferry Porsche design, but upon further review it turns out it was from an early turbo. Whit was great to work with and the cluster looks great. Shaun at Tru6 was pretty amazed at how it turned out. He was doubtful it could be revived. I was inclined to agree, but Whit came through.

Speaking of Shaun, here is some of his handiwork.

More later. Hopefully not 2 months later. ; )

This past weekend I was out of town. My body guy kept on working and made some significant progress. I had spent some time last week getting the underside of the car further prepped for shutz and paint. If you recall, this car had the double "benefit" of factory shutz and aftermarket Zeibart-type crap. That is why it looks black in the first pic and the factory tan in the second. Removing it all was a PIA.

The shutz went on yesterday while I was traveling for work. It looks great. I am including a couple "before" pictures too that I may have posted previously. Just helps me realize how much work has already been done. It will be painted and cleared too, just like the rest of the car.

And FYI, finding the "right" Wurth shutz is not easy. There are several variations that all seems like they could work. The factory tan is NLA, but I am painting it so that did not matter to me. I ended up using Wurth underbody sealer sprayed from a Wurth shutz gun. Very similar to the factory stuff on the pre-71 cars. Plus it is paintable. Several Wurth underbody products are not.

FYI, I've caved to popular trends and decided to go with an ST style front bumper for 9" flares from TRE motosports. Curse you Rob Dickinson! ; ) Should look like this when installed.

Dropped in the gas tank to make sure the strut bar would weld in with out interfering with the gas tank neck. All good, so we positioned and measured twice and commenced with welding. After that, we test-fitted the ST bumper from TRE Motorsports.

I just made up a very similar strut brace for my project. I now realise I also need to make sure that the fuel filler neck fits, but it tapers down almost the same as what you have done, so I think it will be good.

Looking good. Keep those updates coming.

Signal orange will look great and be seen on the road. When i was in my early 20s and couldn't afford a 911, i looked for nice VWs to restore.

It seemed I found a high percentage of orange survivor cars. Then my buddy John the musician blew into town in his orange VW bus for a visit. I concluded orange may be a color that avoided accidents [seen] but I have no real scientific data to back this up.

Anyway nice color choice and nice progress.
