P shop in Ft. Lauderdale?

Any advice from locals on a mechanic around here? I think my E deserves to be pampered a bit after being rudely uprooted from Oregon and driven across the US. I'll be shipping her out to Istanbul this week, and wanted to get an oil change and also have the undercarriage properly cleaned up beforehand. Here's a list I came across on the pbocflorida website, btw:

Thanks in advance, Evren

Hey guys. I'm a former Ft. Lauderdale resident but did not own my 911 when I lived there. But, Champion Porsche is based in Pompano Beach about 15 miles north of Port Everglades where you are probably loading your car up for the trip. I know it is a dealer (we usually stay away from those guys) but if you give them your story I'm sure they would be happy to help out. Plus you could visit the race shop where they prepare the Audi R8 for ALMS and S4 for World Challenge races. I hear it is a great shop.

From your tech list I also recognize the names of Foreign Affairs and Butch Stokes as shops some of the local autocrossers used back ten years ago. But I can not vouch for them in any other way.

I know we have a couple of Ft. Lauderdale guys on the board. Maybe they will chime in. Also, if you can wait until tomorrow for an answer I have a contact that can get the name of a good shop in the area. A friend of my brothers is a PCA concourse guy in the Ft. Lauderdale area. I can check with him tomorrow.

Stay away from Stahl Motorsports in WPB. He's got a habit of making his rent on every service ticket. Try Ian's or Turbo Performance. Both are in Broward County.

Hey, I was going to suggest Stahl in WPB, but it seems others have issues with them. I haven't talked to them in a few years so who know's. When I dealt with them I used to talk to Danny and a guy named Tim who was very nice, to the extent of letting me prowl their parts for what I needed. They even let me take a bottle of Loctite 574 home to put my engine together. They once let me take a muffler home and try it out to see if I liked the sound before I paid for it. I liked em, but its been a few years. I belive I once got an early S distributor from them for 100 bucks in the box. It still works great. There used to be guy that worked there named Ian (sp) is that the same guy who now has his own shop down there? He was very nice. He once let me nose around when he was rebuilding a 928 engine. If he is on his own now, I'd say he would be a safe bet. Anyway, Good luck. You might try Kevin Jeanette at Gunnar Racing in WPB. If they would do it for you, you could see a few 917's and such.

Try Gulf Performance Center in Pompano Beach. Ask for Felix Amore or Vince Colosino: (954) 783-7345. While you are there, look at my yellow race car!!! and do tell them I sent you.

To get there, exit I-95 on Copans Road and go east past Champion Porsche. Make a left after the train tracks (past Dixie Highway) and go to the end of the street (lots of shops around), make a left there and 2 quick rights. They will be on your right, their sign reads Gulf Performance Center and FVD USA.

Hope that helps. Juan

I have heard good things about Gulf Performance too.

A very good, if perhaps pricey shop is ProtoTech 954-771-2654, David Hart near Dixie Highway & NE 45th st. Shop full of P cars and other exotics. They also custom burn their own DME chips and have a dyno.

Turbo Werks near Exec airport (Jose) is good too. 954-771-1177.

Specialty Motorsports 4028 NE 6th Ave. does mechanics and has an excellent paint facility. 954-630-1960. P car spcialists.

The PBOC list is their approved DE tech inspection shops..a good list.

Drop me an email at flatvguy@aol.com for more detail.

Ok, I have another recommendation of Butch Stokes from my contact in Ft. Lauderdale, Lou Gonzalez. The shop is in Hallandale, about 10 miles south of Ft. Lauderdale just off of I-95.

Evern, I hope you had a good trip and that one of these contacts works out for you.

Evren,

Glad I could be of help. The engine is a 2.0 with Cosworth pistons, pauter rods, PMO 46 carbs, twin plugged with 906 derivative cams, 965 oil pump, Ti valves, heavily ported heads, raceware and ARP hardware and electromotive ignition.

No dyno data yet, I'll post info as soon as I have it. Hope all goes well and you get to enjoy your new car.

Juan
